Sami Ben Romdhane

A 30-year veteran, Sami Ben-Romdhane is a vice president and technical fellow for eBay, responsible for leading its platform architecture, databases and storage teams. Since taking this role in 2009, he’s successfully delivered critical technology initiatives. Among them, he developed eBay’s first private cloud platform, and drove eBay blob storage, real-time infrastructure monitoring, Hadoop automation and the eBay  media platform. Sami is currently responsible for all database and storage backend at eBay and is also leading the new eBay storage stack and supporting infrastructure (geo-distributed database, native cloud model, software defined storage). Prior to eBay, Sami worked for Oracle as senior director of engineering, leading Java application frameworks and tools. He came to Oracle through the acquisition of BEA Inc., where he oversaw engineering efforts for BEA’s SOA, application frameworks and tools for the WebLogic application server. In 2000, Sami founded M7 and built J2EE application framework and tools, serving as the company’s chief technology officer.  M7 was acquired by BEA in 2005. Before forming M7, Sami was a chief architect at Symantec and began his career at Apple as a performance tech lead for the Mac Operating system. Sami has a Master’s Degree in CS from CS National Engineering School in Tunis, Tunisia.
